First news first:
We are playing tomorrow (Friday 12/4) at Starbucks. It will be a half hour acoustic set that will go back to the roots of LatW. Well, by roots I of course mean to last April of 2009 when Chris and I would write songs in my living room. To each his own I say.
We will probably go on somewhere between 8-9 pm. Get yourself a coffee, non-decaf drink, or apple juice (as in my case), and check it out. More info on our Facebook.
We also now have a YouTube channel! Only two clips now but we will get a few more up. Rumor has it that Armando is working on a "promo" type of video for us. So keep an eye out for that.
And now for an editorial. I figure why not? It is related to music...
I has the fortunate opportunity to work at the Grammy Nominations Concert last night. The job definitely has some awesome opportunities to see artists and events. I have been there for less than half a year and last night I already had a life changing experience.
As a huge Beatles fan I never thought I would be in the same room with any of the surviving members. But that changed while I was working the press/TV/Media room. So up comes the man, the myth, the legend...RINGO STARR.
All I can do in the moment is give him the "half nod." Thats it. He nodded back. He was very personable and friendly...as humble as one could be being a Beatle. During that time, I either met or was in the same company with other artists as well. Some legends, some newbies to the business. But what I took from the experience was that they all were happy to be there and that they, like any other musicians out there, all started from some fashion of a bottom level.
They HAD to have had fun doing what they were doing or no way in hell they would have bid their time and persisted creating music. Right?
Right.
It was just striking that they did something right, and were genuine in their actions, music, and lyrics. You read articles and interviews that say all this but maybe just seeing it with my own eyes is what finally made it stick. It is a nice feeling, and one that is not easy to come by in this day and age.
Call it a call to action. Call it a reminder of the past. Take from it what you will.
_Mike
P.S. While at the event I blew my chance to convince the Black Eyed Peas and LL Cool J to collaborate on a "save the earth" song with LatW. Don't rule it out though.
